Ask a Policeman

The tiny village of Turnbotham Round hasn’t had a single arrest in 10 years, 5 months, and 4 days. (Never mind the fact that the police are overlooking all the poaching, speeding, and public drunkenness!) After an interview on the BBC, Turnbotham Round’s record comes to the attention of the police commissioner, who informs Sergeant Dudfoot (Will Hay) that since the village obviously doesn’t need a police force, Dudfoot and his men are going to be out of a job very soon. They try to save their jobs with a speed trap, but Dudfoot, Harbottle, and Albert are absolutely hopeless at police work, taking bumbling to a whole new level! As a last resort, the three cops decide to invent a smuggling ring, oblivious to the real-life smugglers right under their noses…
As the holiday season is rapidly approaching/already upon us (whatever your personal view), I thought I’d share this enjoyable, silly little film as a possible family movie night option. I think kids would thinkĀ Ask a Policeman is funny and I certainly wasn’t too grown-up/sophisticated for a few hearty guffaws. Try it; I think you’ll like it.
